Survey
We inspect the premises, discuss occupancy and review any existing fire alarm equipment or fire risk actions.
Commercial fire alarm design, installation and maintenance for workplaces, landlords and managing agents across Manchester, Greater Manchester and the North West. FIDEC keeps the advice practical, the quote clear and the installation tidy.
A fire alarm system should match the building it protects. A small office near Deansgate, a multi-unit site in Trafford Park and a warehouse in Stockport do not need the same design, even when the goal is the same: fast warning, clear evacuation and reliable records.
FIDEC designs and installs fire alarm systems for commercial and mixed-use premises where the building still has to function while work is being done. We look at the layout, the people using the building, the existing wiring, the fire risk assessment and any future changes you already know about. From there, we specify a system that fits the site instead of selling a standard package.
The aim is simple: give you enough detail to make a sensible decision, without burying the useful parts under fire alarm jargon.
We work with business owners, landlords, facilities managers, contractors and managing agents who need a system that can be explained, tested and maintained. That includes offices, shops, hospitality premises, industrial units, shared workspaces, residential common areas and refurbishments where the fire alarm needs bringing up to a better standard.
Some clients come to us before a fit-out starts. Others call because an existing panel is unreliable, a maintenance provider has disappeared or a fire risk assessment has raised actions that need closing. In each case, we start with the building rather than a shopping list of devices.
A typical fire alarm project starts with a site survey and a short discussion about how the premises is used. We then recommend the system category, detection coverage and device locations that fit the building and its fire safety needs.
For non-domestic premises, fire detection and alarm systems are commonly designed, installed, commissioned and maintained with reference to BS 5839-1. The right category depends on the premises and the findings of the fire risk assessment. We explain terms such as M, L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, P1 and P2 in plain English so you can see why a recommendation has been made.
Under workplace fire safety duties, the responsible person must review fire risks, put suitable measures in place and maintain them. FIDEC can support the alarm system side of that duty, but we will not pretend a fire alarm replaces a proper fire risk assessment, staff training or evacuation planning.

You receive a clear scope, system recommendation and quote. If there is more than one sensible route, we explain the difference.
Our engineers install the system with care around staff, tenants, customers and normal site operations.
We test, commission and hand over the system, then talk you through user checks and maintenance needs.
A fire alarm only earns trust when it is looked after. FIDEC provides planned maintenance for fire alarm systems, including inspection, testing, logbook support and advice when parts are ageing or faults keep returning.
Maintenance visits are scheduled around the site where possible. We can support single premises and multi-site portfolios across Greater Manchester, with related maintenance available for CCTV systems, intruder alarms, door access control and fire extinguishers.
FIDEC supports offices, shops, hospitality venues, warehouses, schools, care environments, apartment common areas, construction projects and light industrial premises. We regularly help teams who need one installer to understand both fire safety and security, especially where access control, CCTV and alarm monitoring sit alongside the fire alarm.
We cover Manchester city centre, Salford, Trafford, Stockport, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan, Tameside and the wider North West. If you manage multiple sites, we can discuss a consistent maintenance approach so records, callouts and remedial work are easier to control.
FIDEC is a Manchester-based fire and security installer. You get direct communication, a clear scope and engineers who understand that your premises still has to operate while work is being completed.
We do not invent urgency or hide behind jargon. If a repair is enough, we will say so. If an upgrade is the better long-term answer, we will explain why.
Not always. We can inspect the existing system and advise whether repair, upgrade or replacement is the sensible route.
It depends on the size and complexity of the premises. After survey, we provide a programme that fits the site.
